Chimney Inspections performed by Trident Inspection Group in Orange County

Level 1 chimney inspections following InterNACHI Standards of Practice

Chimney Inspections in Orange County

Creosote, structural concerns, and flue defects are quietly the leading cause of residential fires. Trident performs Level 1 inspections; when Level 2 evaluation is warranted, we provide a referral.

Trident performs comprehensive Level 1 chimney inspections following the InterNACHI Standards of Practice and NFPA 211. A Level 1 inspection is the standard for chimneys in normal service with no change of use or condition. If our Level 1 inspection reveals conditions that require Level 2 evaluation (camera flue scoping, structural concerns, post-event damage assessment, or change in fuel/appliance), we provide a referral to certified Level 2 specialists in your area.

What Trident Provides

Level 1 chimney inspections — Level 2 by referral

Trident performs Level 1 chimney inspections only — the InterNACHI Standards of Practice baseline. A Level 2 inspection (camera flue scoping, partial disassembly) is the appropriate next step when a property is being sold, when there has been a change in fuel type or appliance, after a chimney event (fire, earthquake, severe weather), or when our Level 1 reveals significant damage. When Level 2 is warranted, we refer to certified Level 2 specialists rather than perform it ourselves.

Why It Matters

Why chimney inspection matters in Orange County

Chimney fires are dramatic, fast, and common in older OC homes — especially in Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita, Yorba Linda, and other neighborhoods built in the '70s and '80s with masonry fireplaces. A Level 1 inspection identifies the issues a homeowner can actually see and document, before they become a structural loss.

A Level 2 inspection is required by NFPA 211 when a property is being sold or transferred, when there's a change in fuel type or appliance, after an event that may have caused damage (fire, earthquake, severe weather), or when a Level 1 reveals significant damage. We tell you clearly when Level 2 is the right next step and refer to specialists who perform it.

FAQs

Common questions

A Level 1 chimney inspection is a visual inspection of the readily accessible portions of the chimney exterior and interior, including flue and connections — appropriate for chimneys in continued service with no change in use or condition. A Level 2 inspection adds camera scoping of the flue interior and may require partial disassembly. Level 2 is required when the property is being sold or transferred, when there's a change in fuel type or appliance, after an event that may have caused damage, or when a Level 1 reveals significant damage. Trident performs Level 1 only and refers Level 2 work to certified specialists.
If the property is being sold or transferred, if there's been a change in fuel type or appliance, if the chimney has experienced a fire, earthquake, or severe weather event that may have caused damage, or if a Level 1 inspection reveals conditions that warrant deeper evaluation. We'll tell you clearly when we recommend Level 2 — and refer to a certified Level 2 specialist.
Level 2 inspections require specialized camera equipment, training in flue scoping interpretation, and often partial disassembly. We refer Level 2 to specialists who do that work full-time so you get the right diagnosis the first time.
Yes — even unused chimneys can develop water intrusion, animal nesting, or structural cracks. And if you ever decide to use it, you want documented condition first.
We inspect only. If sweeping is required, we refer to vetted independent sweeps. This separation keeps our findings honest.
Annually if used regularly. A Level 2 inspection is required before each home transfer regardless. NFPA 211 and the InterNACHI Standards of Practice are the source standards.
